On May 16, 2012 I visited The Rose. I found it to be very pleasant, clean and friendly with good food and beer. I visited this pub because my Father's good friend Limey Roundhill told me it was where he drank his beer after checking into the Swan Hotel and Dancing with his English Girlfriend at the Corn Exchange Building. That was in 1944 when he was stationed with my Father at Kimbolton with the 379th BG. He told me he drank beer with the first enlisted Medal of Honor winner in the ETO who was usually thrown out before the evening was over. His name was Snuffy Smith and my research tells me he was a rather useless sort of fellow who, by pure accident, won the medal. You can find his story on the internet. I enjoyed my visit and the historical significance to me. I am an Englishman who was born in Stoke while my Father was a POW. Mum and I came to the US in April of 1946. I found The Rose to be a very nice place.
